The cross represents far more than death and suffering - it was God's ultimate victory over sin and darkness. Before the cross, humanity was spiritually dead, trapped in trespasses, and separated from God's covenant. Through Christ's sacrifice, our spiritual debt was completely canceled and nailed to the cross alongside His body and the sign declaring Him King. The cross disarmed Satan's primary weapons of deception and the fear of death, making him a public spectacle of defeat. This victory means Christians today can live free from fear, no longer enslaved to sin, and boldly proclaim the gospel knowing the strong man has been bound.

Christian courage isn't the absence of fear but rather not surrendering to it when facing real danger. Peter and John exemplified this when they stood before powerful religious authorities who had crucified Jesus just weeks earlier. Despite intimidation and threats, these ordinary fishermen spoke boldly about Christ because they were filled with the Holy Spirit.Their example teaches us that courage emerges precisely in moments of fear when we choose faith over comfort. The religious leaders were astonished by their boldness, recognizing they were 'uneducated, common men' who had been with Jesus. This demonstrates how walking with Jesus transforms ordinary people into those who cannot be intimidated. The power for such courage comes not from natural abilities but from the Spirit dwelling within believers, who gives extra ability to speak or act for Christ's kingdom when needed. Peter didn't water down his message but boldly proclaimed salvation through Jesus alone, showing that the gospel is worth taking risks for.
