Paul emphasizes that the gospel came directly from Jesus Christ, not from human wisdom or approval. Before his conversion, Paul was trapped in the cycle of religious performance and competitive advancement, using his achievements to define his worth. Jesus lived differently - in perfect union with the Father, never falling into the trap of finding identity through accomplishments. Through Christ's finished work on the cross, we can trade self-promotion for rest, knowing our worth comes from God's approval rather than our performance.

Preacher: Billy McKillop, Executive Pastor

Sunday Morning

Date: 22nd February 2026

Passage: Galatians 1:1-10

-------------------

The question of whether we can add anything to God's grace while maintaining the true gospel has challenged the church since its beginning. Paul addressed this issue when false teachers in Galatia began requiring circumcision in addition to faith in Christ for salvation. These Judaizers created a deadly formula: Christ's sacrifice plus circumcision equals right standing with God.

This same pattern appears in modern distortions of the gospel. The prosperity gospel adds material blessings to grace, suggesting that health and wealth indicate God's favor. Approval-based Christianity seeks to modify biblical teaching to avoid offense and gain human acceptance. Cultural Christianity makes political or cultural alignment as important as faith in Christ. Each distortion stems from our sinful nature finding God's free grace insufficient - we want to be in control and earn approval through our efforts.

Paul's solution remains unchanged: Jesus gave Himself as a complete and sufficient sacrifice that cannot be supplemented. His perfect life, substitutionary death, and resurrection secured our justification by faith alone. Good works follow salvation as expressions of gratitude, not as requirements for earning God's favor. The gospel produces freedom, humility, and love while protecting against legalism and self-righteousness.

Preacher: Billy McKillop, Executive Pastor

Sunday Morning

Date: 18th May 2025

Passage: Matthew 18:21-35

-------------------

The parable of the unmerciful servant in Matthew 18:21-35 provides profound insights into the nature and importance of forgiveness within the church community. True forgiveness must emerge from the heart, characterized by humility, gentleness, and patience. It should be unlimited and unconditional, as Jesus illustrated when instructing Peter to forgive seventy-seven times.Unforgiveness acts as a spiritual poison, creating a false sense of power while simultaneously damaging both the unforgiver and the unforgiven. It accumulates like calcium around our hearts, potentially leading to spiritual cardiac arrest and severely impacting our relationship with God and others. The four gospel promises of forgiveness provide practical guidance: not dwelling on the incident, not using it against others, not discussing it with third parties, and not allowing it to hinder relationships. Building a culture of peace requires every member's active participation, commitment to biblical principles, and dependence on Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Paul urges the Philippian church to embrace humility and selflessness to achieve unity, pointing to Jesus' ultimate act of humility—His death on the cross. By adopting the mind of Christ, characterized by humility and obedience, we can live in a way that glorifies God. This message challenges us to resolve conflicts, serve others selflessly, and trust God through suffering, ultimately fostering greater unity and advancing the gospel. Key themes include humility, unity, sacrificial love, and the role of suffering in the Christian journey. Reflect on how you can cultivate a mindset of humility, contribute to unity within your community, and serve others selflessly, even in the face of personal sacrifice. Embrace the humility of Christ this Christmas season and experience the transformative power of His love and grace.

The passage emphasizes the superiority of Christ, whose sacrifice offers us a new and living way to access God's presence. We are encouraged to draw near to God with sincere hearts, not out of ritual but with genuine faith and gratitude. This bold confidence is rooted in what Christ has done for us, allowing us to approach God at any time for grace and mercy. Additionally, we are called to hold fast to our hope in Christ, a confident expectation based on God's promises, and to stir one another up toward love and good deeds. Regular fellowship and community support are crucial for maintaining a resilient faith. This week, let's draw near to God, hold fast to our hope, and encourage others in our community, living out these truths in our daily lives.

The woman expresses her gratitude to Jesus, while Simon the Pharisee fails to understand the depth of forgiveness. Jesus uses a parable to emphasize the need for humility and dependence on God's grace. This understanding leads to compassion, joy, and a life of obedience. The narrative also explores the concept of debt paid in full and the cost of Jesus' sacrifice.
